Ranking The 11 Best Baby Scales Of 2022 To Track Babies’ Growth

Ranking The 11 Best Baby Scales Of 2022 To Track Babies’ Growth

At the beginning of their lives, babies’ weight is one of the biggest indicators of healthy growth and development. But you don’t need to wait for your doctor’s appointment to weigh your little one – the best baby scale can do that for you at home!

The best baby scale for home use can accurately measure the weight of your baby and give you valuable insight into how your baby has been progressing since you brought him or her home from the hospital.

While there are scales specially designed for babies that you can find even at the offices of many doctors, you don’t need to break the bank to get a good-quality scale to weigh your baby at home.

In fact, you will find that there are numerous scales that can deliver the same results at a much lower price and it’s worth checking them out!

That’s why I have decided to rank my top 12 best baby scales – from super simple ones to those that come equipped with BlueTooth and smartphone apps, I’m covering them all!

1. GreaterGoods Smart Baby Scale

When it comes to keeping track of your baby’s weight, you can always go the old fashioned way and keep notes in a growth chart journal, for example.

While this does make for a cute keepsake of your baby’s growth, it’s not the most convenient method.

Plus, when you go to the doctor’s office, carrying a big notepad with you gets old pretty fast. But a smartphone app that can track the weight of your baby? Well, now we’re talking!

The GreaterGoods digital scale for babies uses the power of BlueTooth to connect to your phone and transfer all data regarding your baby’s weigh-in into the accompanying app, so you will be able to take a look at it at any time, at any place. You can even track data for more than one baby!

The scale measures are incredibly accurate, making it a perfect infant scale if you are measuring your baby before and after feedings.

One of the biggest challenges of weighing a baby lies in the fact that they are complete wiggle monsters, something that not a lot of baby scales can deal with, leading to not-so-accurate readings.

Luckily, GreaterGoods scale doesn’t have an issue with this as it only takes a couple of seconds to get a weight reading.

But even if your little one simply doesn’t want to be still, there’s a hold button that you can press to get a reading of their body weight.

The LCD display can also show the child’s weight in different measuring systems – kilograms, pounds, and ounces.

What really solidifies its status as one of the best baby scales is that it can be used by not only infants but also toddlers up to 66 pounds.

To convert it to a toddler scale, just take off the tray on the top and it’s ready for your little one’s weigh-in.

The scale runs on 4 AAA batteries and is very light at only a little over 6 pounds, which makes it quite easy to move from one area to another.

All in all, this baby scale has everything you’re looking for (and then some), which is why I’ve decided to make it my number one recommendation!

2. Tanita Baby Scale

Tanita is a brand that produces some of the best baby scales on the market that can be found in many doctor’s offices, which really attests to its quality.

And if you’re a mom looking for a professional-grade scale for your little one, Tanita is probably going to be your best choice.

Of course, this quality will come at a much higher price than some of the other digital models on my list, but you can rest assured that it will weigh your baby with utmost precision.

It can measure babies and toddlers until they reach 44 pounds and is designed in a way that allows babies to lie comfortably without any chances of rolling off.

You can even add a blanket for extra warmth and comfort because the scale has a tare function that won’t calculate any other weight but the baby’s.

Also, you can remove the tray from the main part of the scale in case you need to clean it or put the entire scale in storage.

In addition to being able to measure weight extremely accurately, Tanita Baby Scale is really durable and will last you for years, so you can continue using it if you decide to have more kiddos!

3.Multi-Function Digital Baby Scale with Free Growth Chart

The Unicherry model is also one of the best baby scales as it comes with numerous features that make it an excellent investment – not just for your little one but for your whole family, too.

First off, the scale has a weight capacity of 220 pounds, so even kids, teenagers, and adults can use it! Just remove the tray intended for babies and it turns into a regular scale.

Like the majority of other models, it can also double as a pet scale.

There’s even a tare button that is very helpful when weighing babies, as you can place a blanket over the tray to make it more comfortable and it won’t have an impact on the weight measurements.

For wiggly babies, the hold feature will lock their weight in so you can get an accurate reading.

The LCD screen shows the weight in both metric (kilograms) and imperial (pounds) measurements, and it’s very easy to switch between the two as needed.

The screen is backlit, too, allowing you to get accurate measurements at any time of day.

But documenting your child’s growth doesn’t just stop with their weight gain – height is very important to track as well!

That’s why I really like that Unicherry comes with a height sensor, so you can get a reading of your baby’s height without reaching for the measuring tape.

Along with the scale, you will get a free growth chart as a present and extra batteries, so the scale is ready to go right out of the box!

Even though it doesn’t have a fancy smartphone app to track your little one’s weight gain, this baby scale is still great value for money as it comes with features such as height sensors and after you remove the tray, the entire family can use it!

4. Digital Baby Scale

This digital baby scale is another convertible model that can do much more than just weigh your little bean – it has a weight limit of 220 pounds, so even adults can get lots of use from it!

The scale is powered by 2 batteries (AAA) and they are part of the package, which is really helpful.

Apart from that, you will find many other useful features that are part of this baby and toddler scale, such as the hold button that can freeze the weight that’s displayed on the screen so you can easily record it on your phone or in a notepad.

There is also a tare button that will automatically deduct the weight of any extra items on the scale, such as a blanket or a towel. As for the measurement system, the scale uses kilograms, pounds, and ounces.

Once the tray is connected to the bottom part of the scale, it locks in place so there’s no need to worry about the scale accidentally coming apart while you’re trying to weigh your baby boy or girl.

I also love that the tray comes with a measuring scale, which makes it super easy to see how much your little one has grown in height!

5. Health o Meter Grow with Me 2 in 1 Baby to Toddler Scale with Growth Chart

While the majority of scales for babies usually have a very straightforward and minimalist design, the Health o Meter model really put a lot of effort into creating a scale that is really suited for kids!

Once you remove the tray, you will see that the bottom half of the scale is shaped like an adorable teddy bear that your toddler will love using!

As for the weight limit, it comes in at 60 pounds, so it won’t be suitable for older kids that are past that weight point.

I also love that the package includes a growth chart book that not only includes useful info on height and weight gain but also will help you keep track of your little one’s shoe size!

The zero out feature is another great addition as it makes the entire weighing process much easier.

For example, if your little one is wearing a diaper, you can first factor in the weight of an empty diaper first so it won’t be part of your baby’s measurement.

Of course, there’s a hold function to make weighing a faster process.

If you do decide that this is the best baby scale for you, make sure to purchase a couple of 9-volt batteries since the scale needs them to power up and free ones don’t come with the scale.

Now, the reason why this scale isn’t so high up on my recommendations list is quite simple – the Health o Meter isn’t as precise as the GreaterGoods scale, for example, as it can measure weight in only 0.5-ounce increments.

As a result, measuring your baby after feeding to see how much breast milk had been ingested might be a little tricky and if you’ve decided to purchase a baby scale for this reason only, then this model might not be the perfect one for you.

6. Sotech Baby Weight Scale

While Sotech baby scale is quite similar to many other scales available on the market, it comes with a neat feature that really sets it apart from its competitors.

I’m talking about the USB charging feature, which allows you to plug in the scale when the battery runs out, so you don’t need to rely on regular AAA batteries.

Of course, if you would still like to use them, you can!

The scale can even weigh adults up to 220 pounds, so you won’t need to sell or donate it when your baby gets bigger.

The top tray can be easily put together and attached to the main base.

Plus, it’s designed with a measuring tape down the middle of the tray, so you can see how much your baby has grown in height from your last weigh-in.

The bottom of the scale is designed with little “legs” that keep the scale from sliding up and down when it’s being used, which is especially helpful when your baby is feeling very active!

Speaking of active babies, there’s a hold feature that can determine your little guy or girl’s weight even when they’re squirming every which way.

In addition, the scale will turn off automatically when it’s not in use to avoid wasting power. There is a zero function that is very convenient as well.

All measurements can be shown in kilograms, pounds, or ounces, and the large LCD display is very easy to read at all times of day (or night).

7. Kubei Baby Scale

Kubei Baby Scale is a convertible model that can be used by both adults and kids as it has a weight limit of 220 pounds.

So, once your little one outgrows it and doesn’t need a baby scale anymore, you can move it to your bathroom!

This scale also has an automatic switch-off feature that will shut the device down if it is not used for longer than 60 seconds, which is a great way of conserving battery life.

The tray that’s intended for weighing infants comes with a measuring scale for your little one’s height, so you can easily check how your boy or girl is growing without having to grab a measuring tape.

What’s more, you don’t have to worry about your baby rolling off of the scale because the surface of the tray is curved, preventing any accidents.

There’s also a locking mechanism that keeps the tray securely attached to the scale.

On the bottom, there are small inserts that block the scale from sliding around if it has been placed on a smooth surface, for example, which adds another layer of safety.

In addition to being really easy to use, Kubei is a good choice if you’re breastfeeding and would like to measure how much milk your baby has had.

Also, it can display the weight in kilograms, pounds, and ounces.

8. Smart Weigh Comfort Baby Scale

The Smart Weigh scale is so sleek and elegant that it will be a perfect addition to the nursery.

It was specifically made with infants in mind, so it cannot be converted to a regular digital scale for older toddlers or adults.

But with a weight limit of 44 pounds, you will be able to use it for more than just a few months!

While the surface of the scale appears flat at first, it is actually designed with a curve, so it’s quite comfortable for your little one.

It uses both imperial and metric measurements, which means you will be able to record precise measurements of your baby’s weight in the system you’re most comfortable with – just press the “Unit” button to change from one to another.

There is also a hold feature to detect the weight even when your little one is moving around. In addition, the tare function allows you to get the accurate weight even if there is a blanket on the scale, or if your baby is wearing a diaper.

The scale itself weighs only 4 pounds, making it really easy to transport or store away when you don’t need to use it.

As is the case with many other digital scales, it has an LCD screen that is lit to make it easier for you to read the measurements even in low light.

All of this comes at a really affordable price, too, so this is a fantastic scale if you are working with a slightly tighter budget and have limited options.

9. Brecknell Portable Digital Medical Baby Scale

The Brecknell baby scale is the second professional-grade scale on my list, as you can already tell by its significantly higher price point.

In addition to being able to measure weight, it comes with gauges that can be used to measure your baby’s height, so it offers much more precision in this department.

On the other hand, the Brecknell scale is only suitable for babies up to 44 pounds and it cannot be converted into a regular scale that adults can use.

The bottom of the scale is equipped with four legs that keep it in place, and as the entire item weighs only 7 pounds, you can easily move it from one place to another.

If the scale is turned on but hasn’t been used for longer than 5 minutes, then it will automatically turn off to save battery power, which is always a welcome addition in my book.

There is also a button that allows you to freeze the measurement on the screen so you can get a precise reading even when your baby is moving around.

All in all, this is an excellent option if you need the peace of mind brought about by a professional scale that doctors use, and you don’t mind paying a little extra for it, either.

10. Beurer Digital Baby Scale

The Beurer baby scale is hands down one of the most popular scales among parents! So, why is it so far down my list, you might ask?

Well, the Beurer is one of the best baby scales if you need a device that will track your baby’s weight gain as he or she gets older.

But when it comes down to measuring how much breast milk a baby had to drink, it’s not exactly the most accurate of scales.

Still, there are many reasons why this model attracts so many parents, one of them being that the scale is equipped with BlueTooth.

This means that you can connect it to your smartphone after downloading the accompanying “Beurer BabyCare” app.

The app not only keeps track of your baby’s weight and height, but you can also use it to record when your baby is sleeping and when and how much he or she is eating – it’s basically an all-in-one baby diary!

Now, you might not want to record all of those things, but it is useful in case you ever want to make a note of important milestones.

In addition to other features that can be found in many other models, Beurer Digital Baby Scale comes with a measuring tape that is attached to the device itself, so you will be able to easily measure your baby’s height, too.

I also love that the scale comes with lovely little elephant designs that make it a perfect addition to any nursery.

And when your little one outgrows it, you can use it to weigh the family dog or cat!

11. Kilö – Precise Digital Baby Scale

The Kilö scale by Bblüv (don’t worry, I don’t know how to pronounce those names either) is a very simple and sleek scale for infants.

With a limit of 44 pounds, it can only be used by babies and it doesn’t come with a detachable tray, either.

The surface is slightly curved but not enough to prevent the baby from falling out should he or she get too excited and try to roll over, so make sure not to leave the baby unattended.

You can choose between 3 different measurements – kilograms, pounds, and ounces – and it will measure the weight within the range of 5 grams, which is around 0.2 ounces.

Like most other baby scales, this one also has a hold feature to detect the weight even if there is a lot of movement on the scale.

In addition, it has a zero function as well, which adds to its ease of use.

It’s also one of the lightest scales on the market (a little under 4 pounds), making it very easy to carry or transport if needed.

Do I Need A Baby Scale?

happy baby on a scaleWhen I was pregnant with my first, I often felt very overwhelmed by the sheer amount of new baby products that seemed to pop up every other day.

To make things worse, I was only familiar with about half of these products, and this only added to my anxiety.

So if you’re a first-time mom, and you’re wondering if a baby scale is really a necessity, I would be lying to you if I said it was.

On the other hand, since babies can’t talk, the only way we know that they’re doing well and growing healthily is through their weight gain, and having a scale nearby to help you to check your little one’s weight from time to time will give you peace of mind.

In fact, an infant’s inability to put on weight might be one of the first signs that something is wrong and that you need to talk to your pediatrician.

Some breastfeeding moms opt to purchase a scale to make sure that their baby is getting enough milk, as this can be difficult to gauge when compared to babies that drink from a bottle.

And from talking to moms who had premature babies, I have learned that the ability to make sure that their babies were developing at a healthy rate helped them relax during those weeks when they didn’t have a doctor’s appointment.

That being said, some parents just love checking in on how their baby is developing and there’s nothing wrong with getting a scale to help with that!

Just don’t freak out if the scale you ordered online comes out with slightly different measurements than the one at your pediatrician’s office!

Medical-grade scales are made to be incredibly precise and accurate, so if your little one suddenly weighs a little less, it’s probably the fault of the digital scale that came in the mail.

(Unless, of course, you are ready to dish out a couple of hundred dollars for the same kind of scale you would find in a doctor’s office!)

To Sum Up

Whether your baby was born perfectly healthy or has a medical condition that needs to be attended to, a scale for babies and toddlers will give you some assurance that things are going well and that your little boy or girl is developing at a good pace.

The best baby scale might not come with a hefty price tag, but it will definitely be able to measure the weight of your baby with comparable accuracy to that of the scale used by your pediatrician.

What’s more, having an accurate scale will save you the panic of mistakenly thinking your baby has lost a lot of weight in a short period of time, so comparing different models and their accuracy is the most important thing, in my opinion.

Everything else – such as apps, USB charging, or fancy design – is window dressing and comes second to their level of accurate readings.

I hope that you were able to get a good overview of all the different models that are currently available and that you’re one step closer to making the best choice for you. Happy weighing!
