22 Best Breast Milk Coolers For Moms On The Go In 2022

22 Best Breast Milk Coolers For Moms On The Go In 2022

Even though breast milk has all the important nutrients a baby needs, keeping up with pumping and storing milk can be a big hassle, especially for working moms – but this is where a breast milk cooler comes in.

Breast milk coolers are specially designed bags made to keep your liquid gold nice and cool during the day when you don’t have access to a fridge, such as when you’re working or commuting.

In addition, they are perfect for long road trips and traveling as they come with ice or freezer packs that regulate the temperature inside the cooler bag.

Storing breast milk in cooler bags will ensure that all your pumping at work doesn’t go to waste and that your little one always has a supply of fresh breast milk.

Considering the many breast milk coolers that are available, I’ve scoured the net to find the very best coolers for you to store your liquid gold – I’m sure you’ll love at least one!

1. Yarwo Breastmilk Cooler Bag with Ice Pack

As a mom of two, I need bags to be big.

Carrying all those sandwiches, extra snacks, bottles, and drinks needs a whole lot of space, so one of my top priorities in a cooler bag is for it to have plenty of room.

Although my kids don’t need baby bottles anymore, this model by Yarwo can be used for anything from baby bottles to school or work lunches, so I’m sure you’ll be using it in the years to come.

It can fit as many as 6 baby bottles – and we’re not talking teeny-tiny infant bottles either. This model will comfortably fit 9-ounce bottles, and even wider models will work.

With the bag, you will also receive a freezer pack with a curved design, so that it takes up as little space as possible and helps keep the bottles in place.

Not to mention that it will keep your breast milk cold until you get home and put it in the fridge or freezer.

In addition to keeping bottles cold, the insulated design of this bag will keep hot food warm. so you can take it with you on a hiking trip or a picnic in the park.

I also love the mesh side-pockets for keys, small toys, and anything else you might need during your day.

There is also a pretty big pocket with a zipper in the front, as well as one at the back, where you can keep your wallet, for example.

This model is quite versatile in carrying department, too, as you can use the shoulder strap to throw it across your shoulder or grab the handle to carry it in your hand.

You’ll also be happy to know that this bag is super affordable and great value for money.

The only downside is that it’s quite plain design-wise. But hey, as long as it gets the job done, I’m not going to complain!

2. Medela Breast Milk Cooler and Transport Set

Considering that Medela offers pretty much everything that a breastfeeding mom could need, from the Medela pumps to breast milk storage bags, it’s no surprise that their Medela breast milk cooler set is one of my first recommendations!

Inside the set, you will find a contoured ice pack so you don’t have to worry about purchasing one separately and wonder whether or not it will fit inside the bag.

Under the right circumstances, the cooler can keep your precious breast milk cold for as long as 12 hours!

Apart from the ice pack, the set comes with 4 Medela breast milk bottles (5 ounces, with caps and not teats).

Keep in mind that the bag will not be suitable for bigger bottles, so if you’re planning on moving up a bottle size, this might not be the right choice.

Other than that, you will be very happy to know that the Medela bottles do not contain BPA or phthalates that could come into contact with your milk!

If you already own a Medela breast pump bag, this Medela cooler will be able to fit inside with no trouble, but it is compatible with most regular tote bags, too.

It can also be used to keep baby food jars cool, so it’s really versatile and overall, one of the best breast milk coolers available.

3. Sarah Wells Cold Gold Cooler Bag

A lot of mom and baby gear products are made to be more practical, rather than stylish, which is why Sarah Wells products have become incredibly popular among pumping moms!

When you look at this model, you would have a hard time guessing that it’s a breast milk cooler – I just love the mint green patterns along with the brown leather details.

It opens with a zipper on top and carrying it is super easy with its handle.

The inside is made from nylon, which makes any accidental spills or leaks really simple to clean.

The Sarah Wells cooler is also much bigger when compared to the Medela one, since it can fit 8-ounce bottles (up to 4).

Of course, there is a reusable ice pack included that will keep milk cool for as long as 8 hours.

But what makes this a really high-quality cooler are the neat little features such as a pocket to put a name tag or photo in, so the bag doesn’t get lost at work or daycare.

All in all, the Sarah Wells cooler is a favorite of working moms everywhere due to its perfect combination of functionality and style.

And I’m sure you will love it, too!

4. Luxja Cooler Bag with Ice Pack

Are you looking for a breast milk cooler that looks like a handbag? Well, you’ve found a winner in this Luxja model!

What I really love about it is that it includes a shoulder strap that you can clip on or off, so there are multiple ways of carrying this bag.

Even though it looks compact, it can fit plenty of bottles or sippy cups – as many 6 (up to 9 ounces) – and even wider bottles will fit easily. In addition to the bottle compartment, there are two smaller pockets in the front and the back to store any other accessories.

Apart from having the milk stay cold, it can double as a lunch bag and keep your food warm, so it’s perfect for all sorts of road trips.

The inside of the bag is made from nylon that will keep any leaks inside the bag and is easy to clean.

You can pick between 4 color options, but I am quite partial to the black and white stripes design (although the purple one comes a close second!)

5. Teamoy Cooler Bag with Ice Pack

The Teamoy bag is another model that can fit plenty of bottles while looking really fashionable at the same time! Inside, there is room for as many as 6 bottles (up to 9 ounces).

The bag is also compatible with wider baby bottles and can be used as a lunch bag when needed.

Plus, the pockets in the front and back are handy for storing little items.

With the removable shoulder strap, you can easily carry it around even when your hands are full.

The ice pack that’s included with the bag is curved for a perfect fit around the bottles, maximizing the amount of space you have left for other baby gear.

The inside is covered with material that is simple to clean and protects the rest of the bag from spills, while the outside material is sturdy.

If you decide that this bag is perfect for you, you can pick between this floral pattern and 3 solid color options that include purple, black, and gray.

6. Columbia Badger Ridge Insulated Baby Food and Bottle Tote

Sure, the Columbia tote might not look as stylish as some of the other bags, but it is really practical to use and offers lots of space.

Plus, it has a unisex design, so it’s great for both mom and dad.

It’s perfect for longer outings as it has room for both bottles and food jars, and you can easily pop it in the storage basket of your stroller.

In addition, it comes with a strap if you’d like to carry the bag over your shoulder.

Apart from lots of room in the main insulated compartment, there are smaller pockets in the front and on the sides where you can place toys, your phone, wallet, and other peripherals.

The inside of the bag is made from easy-to-clean material, but the entire bag can be washed by hand, too (just avoid the washing machine).

Unlike other breast milk coolers, this model doesn’t come with its own ice pack, so make sure to purchase one separately.

Another small downside is that it only comes in one color.

7. Lekebaby Breast Milk Cooler Bag with Contoured Ice Pack

The Lekebaby model is one of the best cooler bags around due to the high quality of its materials.

For example, it comes with metal hooks that are much sturdier and durable than the plastic ones that can break from too much weight.

In addition, there are two ways of opening the bag – in the front and from the top, making it more convenient than some of the other models.

With the ice pack, the contents of the bag can stay cold for as long as 8 hours, which is perfect for moms who work or have a long commute.

The main compartment is very roomy and has space for up to 6 bottles, but you can also use the front pocket to store smaller accessories.

The inside of the bag is protected with material that’s water-resistant, but even if there are any leaks, the bottom of the bag is covered with waterproof material, too.

When it comes to color choices, you can pick between an elegant black and minimalist gray shade that will perfectly complement any outfit you’re wearing!

8. Momcozy Insulated Breastmilk Cooler and Baby Bottle Bag

One of the most important things to look out for when searching for the best breast milk cooler is how easy it is to transport, since you will likely be carrying it around all day.

The Momcozy bag hits all the marks in this department because it has a narrow design and a soft handle for carrying.

Although it doesn’t come with a shoulder strap, the handle can be clipped onto another bag or stroller, so you don’t even need to carry it in your hand.

Even though it’s more narrow than the Lekebaby model, for example, it can still fit as many as 4 bottles (8 ounces, but you can fit more smaller-sized bottles) at the same time.

There are two smaller pockets, one on the inside and one on the outside, to hold any smaller items.

Since it doesn’t look like a typical baby product, you can continue using it as a lunch bag once your little one outgrows his bottle.

Unfortunately, you won’t get an ice pack with the Momcozy bag, so make sure to get one prior to using it for the first time.

There is only one design to choose from, but the floral pattern is really cute and will stand out at the office or daycare.

9. Skip Hop Insulated Breastmilk Cooler and Double Baby Bottle Bag

In addition to coolers, Skip Hop makes really cute changing pads and wet/dry bags, so it’s definitely worth giving their products a closer look if you’re currently in the process of stocking up on baby gear!

As for their cooler, it’s very compact and only fits 2 bottles at a time.

Then again, you might find 2 bottles just enough, in which case this will be the perfect cooler for you!

While there is no ice pack included, the Skip Hop bag does come with a gel pack that you can refreeze when needed.

There is even a small mesh pocket where you can place the gel pack.

The bag comes with a small clasped strap that you can fix to a diaper bag or stroller, but it doesn’t include a strap to carry it over your shoulder.

Apart from bottles, the Skip Hop model can also be used to keep snacks and food jars cool, so you will get plenty of use from it even after you’ve made it past the baby bottle stage!

10. nanobébé Breastmilk Baby Bottle Cooler & Travel Bag with Ice Pack

If you are using or plan to use nanobébé bottles, which are some of the more uniquely shaped baby bottles on the market, then you will definitely need this nanobébé cooler that perfectly matches their shape.

This cooler can fit as many as 3 nanobébé bottles when they’re stacked on top of one another. It also includes an ice pack that is tailor-made to the shape of the bag so it takes up as little space as possible.

When you take the ice out, you can use the bag to keep milk bottles nice and warm for your little one.

It comes in a unisex gray and blue color, meaning that both mom and dad will find it fashionable to carry around during walks or trips to the park.

You can unclasp the handle and attach it to your stroller when you are out and about, and you won’t have to worry about lugging it wherever you go.

While most other coolers aren’t machine washable, the nanobébé model can be washed any way you like, including in the washing machine, which makes cleaning a lot easier!

11. Meichoon Breastmilk Cooler Backpack

I love a cute backpack as an alternative to a purse or tote bag! And when you combine the practicality of a backpack with breast milk storage features, you get a pretty great product!

This backpack by Meichoon is divided up into two main compartments which allow you to separate and organize all of your baby stuff.

One compartment can be used to store a breast pump and other accessories, or even extra diapers, wet wipes, and clothes – whatever you need on a given day!

The other compartment can serve as a cooler for baby bottles – just throw in a freezer pack (it doesn’t come with the backpack).

In addition to carrying it as a backpack, you can use the handle to carry it in your hand like a purse, so it’s very versatile when it comes to transport as well.

Apart from this lovely gray and baby pink color, the backpack is available in 3 other colors, one of which is a very elegant black that will be absolutely perfect for work!

12. Luxja Breast Pump Bag with Breastmilk Cooler Bag

Is there anyone that doesn’t love 2-in-1 bundles?

Especially when shopping for baby items, things get so much easier if you can just kill two birds with one stone and get a breast pump bag together with a cooler!

While I’m sure that most moms have bags in their closet big enough to fit a pump and a cooler, this specially designed bag has compartments that are made with pumping moms in mind.

Plus, it will protect your precious electric breast pump from getting damaged or scratched by the other items in your bag.

The cooler that’s included with the bag has room for 4 bottles up to 5 ounces – it just doesn’t come with a freezer pack, so you will need to get one separately. But I love that the color matches the bag, which is available in black and gray.

The bag is also big enough to fit a 14-inch laptop and other smaller accessories, so it’s a perfect choice for work!

13. JJ Cole Bottle Cooler

This beautifully designed bottle cooler by JJ Cole is compact and a fantastic choice if you would rather avoid bulkier bags.

But despite its smaller design, it can fit 2 larger-sized baby bottles!

There’s also a freezer pack that’s included with the bag, which has a small handle that you can clip onto your stroller or bag when you’re on the go.

In addition to their functionality, these JJ Cole cooler bags come in 4 lovely designs, from solid colors to floral patterns, that I’m sure you will love as much as I do!

14. J.L. Childress Tall Twocool Breast Milk Cooler

This cooler by J.L. Childress is perfect if you are looking for a really compact and travel-friendly model that will fit easily into a carry-on or diaper bag.

It’s a tall model, meaning that it can fit 2 regular baby bottles (8 ounces) or 4 smaller bottles (up to 5 ounces).

In addition, there’s a reusable freeze pack included with the bag to regulate the cool temperature.

The inside of the bag can be easily cleaned as you can pull the material out and wipe it down in case of any spills.

As the bag comes in 5 colors, you can also get one for yourself to keep your drink or snacks cool during the day – no one will be able to tell that it’s a breast milk cooler!

15. PackIt Freezable Baby Bottle Cooler for Breastmilk and Formula

Without a freezer pack, a cooler won’t be able to keep your milk at a low temperature, so it’s pretty essential for every cooler!

But the PackIt model has made freezer packs completely unnecessary by turning the entire bag into one!

Before using it, fold it down and put it in the freezer for a minimum of 12 hours.

This process will freeze the gel that’s inside the bag (eliminating the need for individual packs of ice) and will keep the contents cold during the day.

There is also a small, see-through pocket on the front where you can put a name tag or a picture, which makes this a great bag for your little one’s daycare.

Unfortunately, the bag is not a good fit for regular bottles as there is only room for 4 smaller, 5-ounce baby bottles, so you might want to reconsider this option if you’re planning on using larger bottles.

16. Jax 2020 Breast Milk Cooler Bag

Just by looking at the picture, you can tell that the Jax bag is a very sturdy and well-made model.

It can fit as many as 6 bottles (the taller kind) but you can also use it to pack lunches as there’s nothing about this bag that screams ‘ breast milk only!’

You can get it in a lovely beige color or a fun striped design.

17. Breast Pump Backpack

Since I can’t possibly get enough of stylish backpacks, I have another fun backpack slash breast pump bag slash cooler for you to check out.

What originally caught my eye was this gorgeous black material in contrast with the metallic zippers – it’s a perfect choice for a working mom who would like to add a little edge to her everyday outfits.

If you’re not a fan of black, though, you can get this backpack in gray and a colorful blue pattern, too.

As electric breast pumps are much bigger than manual ones, finding a backpack or tote that will be a good fit is important.

Especially since electric pumps are very pricey and accidentally damaging it in a bag is something any mom wants to avoid!

Luckily, this backpack has plenty of room for your pump, regardless of which brand you’re using, including all the pump accessories.

The top compartment can also double as storage space for extra baby outfits, diapers, and wet wipes when you don’t need to carry your pump, so you can leave the diaper bag at home!

The bottom compartment is insulated and works as a cooler, but a pack of ice isn’t included, which is a bit of a downside.

The number of bottles you can fit in this compartment will depend on how many ice packs you use, but you will be able to fit at least 3.

You can also use this space to pack your lunch and drinks, so it’s a very versatile bag that you can adjust to your everyday plans.

Another feature that we haven’t seen with many other bags on my list is a USB charging port, which is a terrific addition, especially if your phone battery has a tendency to die at the worst possible moment – like mine…

It doesn’t come with a power bank, though, but you can easily get one online if you would like to use the charging port.

Apart from the two main compartments, there is a hidden pocket in the back for your phone – great for protection against pickpocketing!

18. PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag with Zip Closure

Sometimes to find a really good cooler for your breast milk, you need to look outside the box of traditional baby and mom brands!

Even though the PackIt Freezable Lunch Bag technically isn’t made specifically for baby bottles, doesn’t mean it can’t be used as such.

In fact, I’ve seen plenty of moms use it to prepare bottles for daycare and it works just as well as any other brand specially made for baby bottles.

PackIt doesn’t need any additional packs of ice that would take up space in the bag. The bag is already filled with a special kind of gel that needs to be frozen.

You just pop it in the freezer for 12 hours and it’s going to keep the contents cool, whether it’s milk or school lunches.

As it’s quite tall, the bag will be a good fit even for larger bottles. And when you’re not using it, you can fold it down into a compact and travel-friendly size.

There is a small handle in the back that buckles open and also makes carrying easy. For cleaning, you can use a damp wipe to clean the inside of the bag.

The outside should only be spot cleaned, so avoid putting the bag in the washing machine or hand-washing it.

What I really love about PackIt is that there are more than a dozen different colors and designs available, so you will definitely be able to find at least one that you love (but let’s be real, you’ll probably struggle to pick just one…)

19. Teamoy Breastmilk Cooler Bag

As far as simple and elegant coolers go, I really love this Teamoy model as it comes in a nice gray shade (although others are available) that doesn’t look like just another baby product.

Even though it doesn’t come with an ice pack, it’s made from a really sturdy and durable material that can withstand a lot of wear and tear.

There’s even a smaller pocket in the back for your phone or other belongings.

The bag can fit large 9-ounce bottles and there’s room for up to 4 at the same time.

Wider bottles, though, won’t fit as easily, so this is only a good choice if you are using standard-sized models.

20. Dr. Brown’s Convertible Bottle Tote

Finding parents who haven’t given Dr. Brown’s bottles a try would be pretty difficult, as it’s one of the most popular and trusted brands when it comes to baby bottles.

So, it’s not surprising that they have their very own bag for cooling bottles, although it’s not as well-designed as their bottles, in my opinion.

One of its biggest downsides is that it’s not as sturdy as some of the other models of coolers, and features such as extra pockets or straps for easy carrying are missing here.

In addition, you can only clean it with a wipe, so not even hand-washing will do.

This is definitely a pretty big downside, especially when you factor in spills, leakage, and the fact that milk can get very smelly unless washed out.

On the plus side, the bag can fit as many as 4 baby bottles (all sizes), although wider models such as the Comotomo bottles might be a snugger fit.

But if you’re using Dr. Brown’s bottles, then fitting them in won’t be an issue.

Regardless of how tall your bottles are, you can fold over the top and make the tote smaller if you need to, and this will further prevent cold air from escaping the bag.

The bottle tote also comes with a freezer pack to keep your milk cold while you’re out and about, so you won’t need to purchase one separately.

21. J.L. Childress MaxiCOOL

Considering the amount of stuff you need to take with you when you’re out with your little one, it’s perfectly understandable if you want a cooler that will fit inside your tote or diaper bag so you don’t have to think about carrying extra items.

But this doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice important things, such as the amount of room you’ll have for your bottles or breast milk storage bags.

The J.L. Childress MaxiCOOL model will fit as many as 4 bottles (8-ounce size) while staying compact enough to fit inside your tote or backpack.

Even if you are using wider bottles, you will be able to take 3 with you (8-ounces) which is pretty good considering that many coolers just weren’t made with such bottles in mind.

The accompanying freezer pack does a decent job of keeping the milk cold (as long as 8 hours) and can be reused.

I also love that there’s a neat front pocket for smaller baby products and the bag has a clasp so that you can fix it to your stroller or tote.

22. FlexiFreeze Pocketbook Breastmilk Cooler

The FlexiFreeze cooler for breast milk is probably the most low-key cooler around – it looks like a small pocketbook (hence the name) or wallet and you can easily pop it in your bag when you’re off to work, for example.

As it’s small, it can only fit breast milk storage bags, so make sure to double-check the dimensions to see whether your favorite brand of storage bags will be able to fit inside the Pocketbook.

To use it, first pop it in the freezer until the water inside the cubes freezes completely, and then you can place your milk storage bags.

The number of bags that fit inside depends on how full they are but it could fit as many as 4 bags if they aren’t filled to capacity.

Breast milk storage tips

breast milk frozen in storage bags for babyConsidering that breastfeeding and pumping can take considerable time out of your day, it’s important to know how to store all that breast milk so that it doesn’t go to waste!

Thanks to breast pumps, even working moms can continue their milk supply and provide their little ones with the most important nutrients for their health and development.

After the milk has been pumped, it needs to be stored in a cold environment. Here are some general guidelines:

  • Breast milk can stay at room temperature for no longer than 4 hours.
  • It can stay in a cooler for 24 hours, but remember to check whether the temperature has changed or if the ice gel packs have melted.
  • Keep it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Place it in the coldest area of the fridge (this is usually the very back) and avoid storing it in the shelves on the door as this area is not very cold.
  • Frozen milk can stay in the freezer for as long as 6 months, so it’s a great storage option if you have a large supply of milk.

Remember to always use storage bags for your breast milk and label them with the date, so that you will know whether it has expired or not.

And when you’re feeding your little one from a bottle, always throw away any leftover milk (don’t put it back in the fridge or freezer) as it can become contaminated with bacteria during the feeding process.

You may also want to consider getting a special bag for your breast pump.

To wrap up

Breast milk frozen in cooler bag for babyWhen you’re pumping on the go, having a breast milk cooler is pretty much a must, as it will prevent your breast milk from going bad and ruining all that hard work you put into pumping.

Luckily, there is no shortage of great coolers available. It’s all a matter of deciding what your personal preferences are and where you will need to use it.

You might find a smaller and simpler cooler perfect for your needs or perhaps opt for a larger one that can store bigger bottles.

No matter which one you pick, the most important thing is that it keeps your liquid gold cool to safely reach your baby’s tummy!
