Pre-Black Friday Sales Prep

Woman holding many shopping bags while walking in the shopping mall

Now, before you start heading to your nearest retailer, whether it’s Target, Walmart, or somewhere similar, make sure you get the most out of your shopping experience.

This means doing a bit of preparation.

How? You may ask. Well, first things first, you’ll want to sign up for any loyalty programs that your local retailers and stores participating in Black Friday have.

If you haven’t already, now would be the right time to start earning those benefits.

One of the more prominent ones that comes with a ton of benefits, especially for all of you online shoppers, is Amazon prime which will bring you a ton of deals on Amazon even outside of Black Friday. And, it comes with a ton of other juicy benefits!

The other, more obvious option, is to look for alternative ways of getting discounts such as coupons or gift cards.

While some won’t be accepted during the Black Friday rush, many likely will be and you should make use of the additional discounts to snag yourself something at checkout that you really might’ve needed for your current or future mothering journey.

Think breast pump, baby food, a high chair or two, a baby swing, some double stroller deals, the pricier pacifiers, pack ‘n plays, or any other more expensive piece of baby gear that might come to mind such as baby carriers.

Be on the lookout for convertible car seat deals in particular.

This is the best time to get them if you’re looking to budget optimally.

Also, the best deals often come in the form of all in one gift sets that some retailers tend to make specifically for Black Friday.

Another good idea is to plan your shopping around a certain budget.

While the sales do tend to be incredible and too good to pass up, many people believe that they absolutely need to get everything right away.

They couldn’t be further from the truth.

The reality is that self-control is hard during Black Friday, as made evident by the sheer amount of people that come rushing into retail stores once it officially begins.

Shoppers run around frantically and just stuff their carts with anything they can get their hands on. Often, they simply grab the items that have the biggest percentage with a minus plastered next to it.

This is why it’s key to plan ahead, to know what you’re buying so you can get what you need, pay for it at the cash register and get out.

If you decide on a set route or a set budget for yourself, you’ll feel less inclined to turn your head toward all those flashy big numbers and will be less likely to make the wrong decision.

This way you also avoid overspending because after all, there needs to be some money left over for living expenses after Black Friday is over!

Knowing What Not To Buy

A person searching for something sitting in mall

All of the insane price deals on Black Friday are undoubtedly going to be dazzling and will make it challenging to try to figure out a plan regarding what to get and what route to take.

While everything may be on sale, here are a few items which I suggest you avoid going for during a Black Friday sale mostly because they’re cheaper overall or on bigger discounts during other times of the year:

1. Winter clothing

The first one is a bit of a tricky one, but it’s usually bait set out during Black Friday sales as stores market December as the only cold month of the year.

The real secret is that January is the month you ought to be looking for winter clothing, when all of the holiday cheer dies down and the New Year sets in. And then, it might as well be a new set of baby winter clothing too.

In January, the prices for winter clothing are the lowest. But, if you didn’t think ahead or if you’ve only recently given birth, it’s no crime to go shopping for it now so your little one can be nice and snug during the chilly winter months.

2. Children’s toys

This one might seem like the strangest of the bunch, but, honestly, it makes a lot of sense once you think about what holiday comes up barely a month after Black Friday.

It’s Christmas, of course! Toys end up being noticeably cheaper during the month of December because most companies are looking to either sell off excess stock or want to promote some new model of toy and so the older ones become a bargain.

While, yes, this is a sneaky move, that’s what business and marketing usually is so, use these sales tactics to your advantage! Don’t get fooled by the low prices on toys during Black Friday as you’ll get better deals a few weeks later.

3. Sheets, bedding

Much like with winter clothing, linens of all sorts become cheapest during the early months of the new year. Aim for January and February when planning the purchase of these items.

That’s, in part, due to the changing of seasons and the months slowly becoming warmer and warmer so shops want to get rid of old stock.

Consequently, if you’re looking for bedding and sheets for baby cribs and the like, just hold off on those until after December, especially if you’re looking for better deals and ways to get more bang for your buck.

4. Holiday décor

Now, this may seem like yet another oddity, but if you’re someone who insists on living a more frugal life, then you aren’t going to be opposed to hanging up last year’s decorations for this Christmas.

While this ’embarrassment’ (though really it’s just a slight setback) may seem like a big deal, it’ll only last a year while you actually transition into this neat little shopping trick.

The trick is to buy holiday decorations after the holidays are over. Once again, most retailers are likely to be selling off their excess stock at incredibly low prices just to push product and make good on their investment.

While Black Friday sales may seem to be doing a similar thing, in reality, it’s nothing compared to the sales that happen in early January.

And, believe me, your child will be just as amazed by your old decorations as he will be with the new ones. All your little one cares about is seeing the bright colors light up and shine.

If you’re really worried about it, just change their arrangement around a bit and they’ll be as good as new!

5. Any sort of baby fitness gear

Possibly the oddest of all potential items that you might consider, but the reality is, in this modern age, a lot of people are fitness crazy.

Plus, those Thanksgiving dinners tend to be quite filling so some people may be more inclined to purchase fitness gear.

I’d personally advise you to stay away from them at least until the start of the new year because, once again, that is when the lowest prices seem to appear.

This is mostly due to all the New Years’ resolutions of “New Year, new me” so people go crazy on fitness equipment.
It’s a thing that salesmen have caught on to and have used to their advantage.

So, if you’re a sporty mom who’s looking to raise a little baby jogger, you may want to hold off on buying a pair of baby leggings or specialized jogging strollers until 2022 comes around.

But, the ideal summer infant is one whose summer body was built on just crawling and mother’s milk.

Safety Warning: Shop Responsibly

Laptop and credit card - Online shopping concept

It is well-known that people tend to go… wild, for lack of a better term, during these Black Friday sales and that a lot of accidents happen. There have even been a few casualties for the unlucky ones.

This is why I implore you to stay safe and shop responsibly! Especially this year with all of the regulations and measures in place.
If you can do your shopping online, then do that. No infant car seat or baby bassinet is worth you risking your health or an injury.

The doctor’s appointment is likely to cost you more than the discount anyway.

Besides, this year, Cyber Monday is likely to be the more popular of the two holidays even though it was originally thought of as an extension.

In Conclusion

Black Friday baby deals are plentiful and diverse, offering moms a lot of choice in what to buy. So much so that it can honestly be overwhelming at times, particularly in comparison to the Black Friday baby deals in 2019.

The trick is to only look for what you really need, to set a budget, and to plan things out ahead of time by getting additional discounts from your local retailers in the forms of coupons, gift cards, and other similar methods.

I also advise you to look at the quality of the brands that you’re buying. You may save money short term but in the long run, having to replace bad quality items will cost you more money, as well as time and energy!

Once you know what you want, you can just make that list online and take most, if not all of your shopping over to Amazon and use their Amazon Prime service to get your stuff shipped faster and more reliably.

And on top of that, you can enjoy some additional benefits as well.
It’s also of paramount importance to not go overboard.

Maintain a sense of self-control and stick to a priority list of baby item essentials rather than splurging all your savings on stuff you may throw away in a few month’s time.

Mammas, remember to shop safe and shop responsibly. If you’re going out there, don’t forget to wear a mask and keep your distance.
