10 Best Cribs For Short Moms In 2022 For Easy Child Handling

10 Best Cribs For Short Moms In 2022 For Easy Child Handling

Recently I learned about the existence of cribs for short moms. At first, I didn’t quite understand why they’re necessary but upon doing a bit of research, I was astounded at just how hard it is for a petite mama to properly handle her baby.

Baby cribs for short moms help them reach over the railing so they can put their child to sleep without risking waking them up which is a big problem for moms who can’t reach over the railing normally.

These specialized cribs are typically convertible cribs to allow for the greatest amount of customization and allow the bed to evolve with the child so he isn’t stuck with a bed that’s lower to the ground.

They also typically have a railing that you can slide down and secure so the security of these low profile cribs isn’t compromised just because it’s trying to cater for petite moms.

Don’t worry, every single one of the convertible baby cribs for short moms on this list meets and even sometimes exceeds all relevant US safety standards.

But, which one of them is the best?

For all of you busy moms, here’s a quick list of our top picks!

10 Best Baby Cribs For Short Moms

1. Babyletto Modo 3-in-1 Convertible Crib With Toddler Bed Conversion Kit

First up on the list is the Babyletto Modo, a wonderful convertible crib that satisfies the parental needs of every shorter mom – at least the ones concerning the sleep routine of their little ones.

Coming in at a height of just about 35 inches, it should prove low enough for you to not feel like leaning over the guard rail of the crib is a chore, but a simple task just like it should be.

The bed is free from any odors and bad chemical emissions that might cause harm to your child over a longer period of time.

As for its construction, the bed is made out of solid New Zealand pine wood, a material that’s among some of the most renewable ones in the world. So the great news is that the production of this bed causes little to no harm to the environment.

Not only that, but the entire construction looks clean with all the nuts and bolts hidden underneath the wood itself for a better aesthetic feel.

It’s one of the best low profile cribs out there for short moms especially thanks to its ability to convert from a baby crib to a toddler bed and even into a daybed thanks to the conversion kit that comes with the purchase.

As an added accessibility option, the crib also allows for 4 adjustable mattress heights, making it even easier to do what you need to without having to lean over, use a step stool, or make any other hazardous plans just to get your little one into their crib.

Finally, the entire bed meets ASTM and CPSC US safety standards and is lead and phthalate-free. In fact, it’s so safe that the crib is Greenguard gold certified.

And, it comes in 5 different wood finish variations (at least on Amazon), so you can find the one that best fits your baby’s room.

2. Dream On Me Aden 4-in-1 Convertible Mini Crib

Another good choice is the Dream On Me Aden, one of the best convertible cribs on the market that caters to petite moms and dads.

It’s pretty compact as far as width is concerned, but the overall dimensions still give your baby enough wiggle room so he doesn’t feel confined. And the height comes out at about one inch taller than the Babyletto Modo.

That shouldn’t be a deal-breaker, but it all depends on your overall height and preferences.

The crib is constructed out of the same solid New Zealand pine wood as the Modo showing just how much these companies care not just for the quality of construction, but also about leaving a better future for your children to grow up in.

The assembly itself is really easy and the instructions and necessary tools will arrive with the delivery of your purchase.

And, not only does it fit neatly into any baby room, but it’s also a product that passes all CPSC and ASTM safety regulations, even exceeding some of them at times thanks to their policy of remaining free of any phthalates or similar hazardous chemicals and materials.

However, that isn’t even the main draw of this bed! It’s the 4 in 1 capability, allowing the bed to transform from a baby crib into a mini daybed or a twin-sized bed with or without a footboard.

And, the crib mattress itself comes with 3 adjustable mattress positions to further enhance your motherhood experience.

The baby crib comes with 7 different wood finishes, each sporting an eye-popping color that fits perfectly into any child’s room and could easily become its centerpiece.

It’s also quite a lot cheaper than the Babyletto Modo. Unfortunately, it does have a downside – the conversion kit is a separate purchase, excluding the price of the twin bed rail and the bed frame from the original cost.

3. Babyletto Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Bed Conversion Kit

Next up on my list is another Babyletto model, this time it’s the Hudson crib.

As with the Modo model, the Hudson is constructed out of sturdy New Zealand pine wood that’s both eco-friendly and very renewable.

That, plus the 35 inch height, makes it an ideal crib for short moms.

Not only that, but the construction itself once again contains no visible nuts and bolts providing a cleaner aesthetic to the mix.

Of course, this model also meets all CPSC and ASTM international safety standards and has a Greenguard gold certification for no chemical emissions and non-toxic finish, registering it free of any phthalates and lead.

And, much like its Modo counterpart, it can transform from a baby crib into a toddler bed and even a day bed, all enabled through the toddler bed conversion kit that comes along with the purchase.

But, we’ve already heard all of this before with the Modo, so what makes this one special? Well, the first thing that you might notice is the slightly different dimensions with the Hudson coming in as slightly larger in terms of width and length with the height remaining the same.

This is ideal for moms who want to give their kids a bit more breathing room in the crib so they don’t feel too cramped.

But, the one big difference is the added visibility thanks to their rounded slats on the toddler bed rail as opposed to the usual flat, wide ones.

These aren’t just safer, they also allow you to see what’s going on inside the bed with just a mere glance in case there’s an emergency and you need to react quickly.

And, of course, the part that I personally enjoy the most is the color variation in the different finishes. The Hudson has an astounding 8 options to choose from so you should find the perfect match for your dream baby room!

4. Storkcraft Hillcrest Fixed Side Convertible Crib

Another good contender for the spot of one of the best cribs for short moms is the Storkcraft Hillcrest baby crib.

Coming from a company that’s been in the business of advancing standard crib functionality for over 75 years, with a Women’s Choice Award as one of their crowning achievements, this bed might just be your winner.

Made out of high quality pine wood, this fine piece of baby gear meets all CPSC and ASTM safety standards nationwide providing a non-toxic environment for your child to sleep and play in, free of any phthalates or similarly harmful chemicals used in construction in the past.

The Storkcraft bed can convert from a regular crib to either a toddler bed, or a day bed, and even a full size bed to help cover all your child’s needs and remove the need to purchase more than one bed throughout your little one’s childhood.

This allows him to keep the nostalgia and memories attached to his bed for years to come.

But that’s not all, the Hillcrest comes with 3 adjustable mattress levels that allows you to get the proper height position that best fits both you and your baby without having to add any extra risk with the complications that a full-size crib would typically impose on shorter moms.

The bed comes in at only 34 inches, making it one of the more ideal cribs for short moms given the lower height.

And finally, the Storkcraft baby cribs come in a variety of different finishes, each designed to wonderfully complement any baby room it may find itself in. My personal favorite is the espresso, but the others are just as wonderful.

Sadly, it’s not all perfect. Though the price may seem affordable, at least on Amazon, the crib doesn’t seem to come with the mattress as the people at Storkcraft have decided to make it a separate purchase.

Outside of that though, it’s as good as any other bed on this list, if not better.

5. Delta Children Emery 4-in-1 Convertible Baby Crib

Next up we have a rather well-known manufacturer of baby products, Delta Children with their Emery baby crib for short moms.

It’s a lightweight, but sturdy crib with rather compact dimensions and wood construction. It provides safety for the child and better accessibility options for the petite mom when handling her precious bundle of joy.

Given its proportions, the Emery is rather easy to assemble with all of the instructions included in the kit.

And, as with every other product on this list, the Delta Children Emery has been tested and not only meets but exceeds all international ASTM and CPSC safety standards. It’s even JPMA certified.

All this certification and testing basically tells you as the mama that this product is free from all harmful chemicals like parabens and phthalates that might cause a number of adverse side-effects in kids.

As with every convertible crib, the Emery has several different bed types it can be transformed into – 4 in fact, starting off with the standard baby crib and a basic toddler bed, all the way up to a daybed or even a full size bed complete with headboard. Of course, the crib can be lowered as your baby grows.

That said, only the daybed rail is included in the purchase whereas the frame for the full size bed and the toddler guardrail don’t come included with your purchase and must be bought separately.

The Emery convertible crib does, however, come with adjustable mattress support providing 3 different height options for you to adjust based on either you or your baby’s preferences.

And finally, the finishes aren’t really anything to write home about, but they’re still high quality despite being somewhat neutral, allowing them to fit into the décor of any baby room you’ve envisioned.

6. Graco Remi 4-in-1 Convertible Crib and Changer

This neat little crib for short moms is what I’d call the deluxe edition of all convertible baby cribs.

That’s because it’s not just your run of the mill crib, it also comes with a changing table as well as a few small spaces that fit drawers for storage of necessary baby gear like spare sheets, diapers, washcloths, swaddles, and so forth.

Speaking of the changing table, its surface is covered in a water-resistant vinyl, keeping the rest of the woodwork safe and making cleanups a breeze should the baby’s little accident decide to escape its confines.

This fine piece of woodwork is built out of sturdy pine wood and meets all CPSC and ASTM safety standards in the US.

Not only that, but it’s also JPMA certified, proving that it has a non-toxic finish free of any phthalates, lead, and parabens, keeping your child’s health safe from any harmful fumes.

And, as with any convertible crib, the Graco Remi can go from your regular crib into a toddler bed, a day bed, and, finally, a full size bed with ease, though the conversion kit isn’t included with the initial purchase and is sold separately.

Lastly, the Graco Remi offers 3 different, but equally spectacular wood finishes to its customers, allowing for a little bit of extra personalization at the end so you aren’t stuck with just one option and can pick based on your preferences.

7. Delta Children Bentley S Series 4-in-1 Convertible Baby Crib

Another fantastic little convertible baby crib for short moms from Delta Children, their Bentley S version.

A slightly more stylized form compared to the Emery, but equally as accessible, if not more.

The Bentley S is a low profile crib designed to appear in the shape of an understated sleigh with its sturdy wood construction and non-toxic finish.

It’s also been JPMA certified and has been tested to meet any and all safety standards set out by the CPSC and ASTM in the United States.

It also features 4 different forms, from a standard crib and a toddler bed to a daybed or a full sized bed together with both a foot and headboard to match.

But, it does have the unfortunate fault of the toddler guardrail and the full sized bed rails not being included in the initial purchase. Only the day bed rail is included.

The mattress isn’t even part of it either, but that can all still be easily remedied. Just be aware of the actual purchase price and how much bang for your buck you’re getting; and don’t forget to factor in the additional costs of the added extras.

You have the option of choosing between three premium wood finishes that make the crib look like a true masterpiece that can fit into any room and only add to its overall beauty.

8. DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Crib

While not actually the work of one of history’s most brilliant artists and inventors, the DaVinci Kalani is still a work of art in its own way.

Constructed out of solid New Zealand pine wood much like many of the other cribs on this list, the Kalani guarantees the sturdiness of its framework as well as its eco-friendly nature.

And, of course, the Kalani also sports a non-toxic finish tested and certified by the ASTM and the CPSC for managing to meet and even surpass the safety standards that they’ve set, not to mention that the crib is also Greenguard Gold certified for lack of toxic emissions.

Of course, all of that just means that the product is free from any phthalates, lead, and parabens as well.

As is the nature of every convertible crib, the Kalani can go from standard crib to toddler bed, day bed, or full sized bed quite easily. Sadly, the conversion kits for the latter two don’t come with the base purchase and must be acquired separately.

A slight shame, but understandable given that this appears to be the norm for products of this nature.

The DaVinci crib comes with 6 illustrious wood finishes, each more prestigious than the previous one at no extra cost, allowing you more freedom of choice should you opt for this particular model.

9. Babyletto Origami Mini Portable Crib With Wheels

This is a third option from Babyletto and a bit of a deviation from the standard so far, a portable mini crib. It’s a great selection for short mamas who want to be able to take their baby everywhere with them.

Just like the other Babyletto models, it’s constructed out of solid New Zealand pine wood s proving once again their belief in sustainability and care for our planet’s future.

The non-toxic finish also manages to meet all ASTM and CPSC standards in the United States, meaning that this product too is free from any lead or phthalates as well as any dangerous fumes that similarly hazardous chemicals might emit.

It’s also been Greenguard Gold certified for the very same reason!

This version comes with a 1 inch thick mattress support that’s made out of TSCA compliant wood, ensuring a soft and comfortable surface that doesn’t compromise your child’s sleep or overall enjoyment of his baby crib.

It also comes with two different, adjustable mattress positions to help maximize your child’s comfort and improve on your own accessibility to the child’s bed.

The main benefit of the Origami over all the other models is its added portability, making it into a kind of bassinet.

And, if you’re worried about the wheels themselves posing a potential safety hazard, don’t because they’re fully removable if you want the bed to remain stationary.

The one downside is the fact that it’s not a convertible crib, meaning that you’d have to upgrade separately afterward. This means that you’re likely to pay more money than you would for the other, convertible ones.

However, on a positive note, the crib comes in 7 vibrant finishes of varying colors that aren’t just black and white.

The wide assortment of tints from all sides of the rainbow, allow more options than any other candidate on this list. No doubt that you’ll find something just perfect for your baby’s room!

10. DaVinci Union 3-in-1 Convertible Crib

And last, but most certainly not least, we have our budget option of the list, the DaVinci Union crib.

Despite the more affordable pricing, the Union doesn’t skimp out on the environmentally friendly part as it too is made out of solid New Zealand pine wood!

It also passes all the safety standards set by the CPSC and the ASTM deeming it safe from lead, phthalates, and other chemicals that might pose a health risk to both you and your child.

The design may seem a bit simple, but it’s just as functional as all the other products on this list.

The only real difference between it and the others is that it only has three conversion options: the standard crib, the toddler bed, and the daybed.

No full sized option sadly, but that shouldn’t be too much of a deal breaker considering that you’ll get more than enough bang for your buck with this model.

It does have 4 different adjustable mattress positions though which is on par with some of the most expensive crib models on this list for a, comparatively, much lower price.

The Union comes in an array of different wood finishes as well, allowing for that much needed variation that all of the best baby gear brands strive to offer us moms with a desire for individuality and personalization.

How Do I Know Which Models Are Cribs For Short Moms?

If none of these manage to strike your fancy, you can always go out and browse the internet for one that fits your specifications.

But, there are some other traits that you also need to keep in mind when looking for a good quality crib:.

• It has to meet all the safety standards set out by the CPSC and ASTM.

• It has to be a low profile crib to ensure its sturdiness and accessibility without compromising its security.

• It shouldn’t skimp on any of the features regular cribs have in favor of a more compact size.

• The cribs need to have a non-toxic finish to comply with said safety standards and not put your baby’s health at risk.

• The gaps between slats shouldn’t be wide enough for your baby to be able to slip through as that’s an immediate red flag.

• Mattresses should be fitted properly with no gaps too wide between their edge and the crib’s framework.

• An optional, but favorable requirement would be that the cribs are also either JPMA certified or Greenguard gold certified (or both) to get that extra assurance of quality.

Finally, the one thing you should avoid completely is any form of drop side crib. Those no longer meet the CPSC safety requirements and have been banned for public use for nearly a decade now due to the inherent safety hazard they pose.

There were numerous cases of injuries and even child fatalities due to insecure sides that would slide down and cause severe harm to the child if left unsupervised.

In Conclusion

Finding cribs for short moms can be a real challenge, especially because it depends on the height of the mamma in question. What might seem adequate for one petite mom might not be comfortable for the other and vice versa.

The challenge is to find the right one for all occasions which usually tend to be cribs around the 34-37 inch height range, give or take a few inches.

But even then it’s not enough for some moms because not all mamas will fall into the average height category.

This takes a lot of the fun out of browsing for baby gear since most of them end up not meeting the added requirements that you need to provide a pleasurable experience for both you and your baby.

I’ve tried my best to narrow it down for you and I hope that I’ve managed to help you out somewhat.

Though I myself am not a short mom and couldn’t really experience the needed requirements first hand, I’m confident that my research was enough to at least justify the products on my little list here.

At least to the point where you can ditch the step stool so you don’t accidentally end up slipping or risking the noise and waking the baby up as you try putting him to bed.

I’m hopeful that you’ll be able to resolve all your problems and that motherhood will be even more of a blessing than it already was!
