Lightweight Double Strollers: 12 Best Double Strollers Of 2022

Lightweight Double Strollers: 12 Best Double Strollers Of 2022

It seems like just yesterday you were excitedly preparing for your firstborn’s arrival, armed with a comfy stroller, a baby bassinet, and a foolproof car seat.

Now with a second baby on the way, you’ve realized that you need a lightweight double stroller.

Lightweight double strollers, which can vary in style and design, have two things in common – they can fit two kids at once and make your life a lot easier in the process.

Since two of my babies were born close together, I’ve always relied on double strollers to get me through the days when I’m running a lot of errands on foot with kids in tow.

They’re also great for traveling with your babies!

Let’s get real, no 3-year-old pair of twins has the energy to spend the entire day sightseeing.

With a double stroller, you and your partner can enjoy being tourists while your kids take a nap.

Lightweight strollers are especially important when you’re pushing two kids at the same time – in this case, a heavy stroller would be more trouble than it’s worth.

To help you discover the best lightweight double stroller to suit your needs, I’ll show you some bestsellers as well as some lesser-known, but still high-quality, models that can simplify day-to-day life with kids.

1. Britax B-Lively Double Stroller

When my daughter was a 2-year-old toddler, she became a big sister to her little brother. Luckily for us, she loved him for the get-go and didn’t want to leave his side.

But for us, the parents, having two kids under the age of two now meant having to transport a newborn and a toddler at the same time.

The Britax B-Lively Double Stroller is designed to solve this challenge.

If you’ve already bought an infant car seat, you can still use it with this side-by-side stroller (it’s okay if it’s not a Britax one, an adapter is available.)

Unlike some other double strollers, the Britax is perfect for newborns as well, because the reclining seats can go as far back as you wish.

The weight limit is 50 pounds per seat and your kids are welcome to use this stroller until they’re 6 – Although this could be affected by height. When folded, the stroller is self-standing, so it’s easy to put away when you don’t need it.

And I absolutely love the amount of storage space it comes with – when I go to the supermarket, I don’t even need to get a cart!

2. Joovy Scooter X2 Double Stroller

The Joovy Scooter X2 model is a traditional-looking double stroller that only weighs 32 pounds. It’s perfect if you have twins or two toddlers close in age!

Each seat can take up to 45 pounds, so that’s 90 pounds in total.

If you’re worried about having to fold the stroller to fit through narrow doorways, the Joovy is only 30 inches wide so no folding is necessary.

Plus, the wheels are specially designed to make pushing two kids as easy as possible (sometimes the workout is welcome, though!)

The stroller also has a removable bumper bar so your kids can’t try and escape mid-trip and every seat can be individually adjusted.

This means that if one tot is in the mood for a nap, you can just lower their seat down without moving the other.

The reclining function can also be adjusted with one-hand!

Parents will also enjoy the two cup holders and zippered pockets that can fit personal items.

And even though it’s made for two kids, it’s simple to make turns and maneuver as you make your way around the supermarket.

3. BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 Duallie Double Jogging Stroller

I’m going to be really honest with you – I’ve tried jogging at least half a dozen times in my life, and I could never stick with it.

But if jogging is your thing, more power to you! Especially if it involves pushing two kids at the same time – those are some serious skills.

This double stroller is great if you’re a runner but it’s also perfect if you’re planning a trip to Disney since it meets their size requirements.

Each seat can fit up to 50 pounds, even though the stroller itself weighs only 33.1 pounds. It can also fit infant car seats, you just need an adapter.

The handlebar can be modified according to your height, so both parents can adjust it to their liking.

The wheels are filled with air, which allows it to go smoothly over different types of terrain, giving a comfortable ride for your kids.

And if you like extra-long running sessions, there are 10 pockets for storage in addition to a big bottom basket for all your baby gear.

The UPF 50+ canopy does a great job at protecting your kids’ sensitive skin in the sun and the padding in the seats makes sure your little ones are as comfortable as possible.

4. Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller

Living in a big city comes with a lot of perks, especially when you don’t need to rely on a car to go everywhere.

A mom’s life, though, makes walking or taking public transportation a whole lot harder.

The Baby Jogger City Mini Double Stroller was made with this in mind, which is why it’s a personal favorite of mine.

Even with two kids, I didn’t want to say goodbye to running errands on foot and this compact stroller made that possible.

Weighing 36.5 pounds, this double stroller can be easily steered with just one hand.

It’s appropriate for infant car seats as well, but you need to purchase car seat adapters first.

The seats can be adjusted to different positions, allowing your tots to take a nap during the day.

There’s a small peek-a-boo window so you can check in to make sure your kids are comfortable or put an end to a sibling fight.

Sadly, I have yet to see a twin stroller with a “prevention of sibling fighting” feature, so we’ll just have to make do.

The compact fold is simple and easy to do with just one hand and to keep your little ones safe and in place, there is a 5-point harness which is great news for parents of young kids.

5. Baby Jogger City Select Double Stroller

This Baby Jogger City Select tandem stroller is designed to seat one kid in the front, and one in the back.

In total, there are 16 different seating combinations, including a single seat and a bassinet, or two car seats at the same time, depending on your family’s needs.

Since this is a more expensive model (it’s in the same price range as the bestseller UPPAbaby Vista), not only is it nice to look at but there is a hand brake and a 5-point safety harness as well.

And if a third child comes along, you can order a standing platform for your oldest and all three siblings can enjoy the ride.

6. Zoe Twin+ Stroller

This is an ultralight double stroller that weighs in at only 19 pounds and is perfect for parents of twins who are looking for a stroller that can grow with their babies!

The maximum weight for a single seat is 45 pounds and its dimensions are perfect for a trip to Disneyland.

The fact that it’s so lightweight also makes it a great travel stroller, since no one wants to be lugging around a heavy stroller all day while on their summer vacation.

While it’s not as easy to make turns with, it’s simple to fold and set up.

A downside, though, is that the wheels are quite small and they don’t offer as much support as some of the other models above.

The Twin+ is a great choice if you’re looking for a stroller to take walks around your neighborhood, but I would avoid using it on rougher terrain because the wheels might get stuck or become a nuisance.

On the plus side, the UPF 50 canopies are separate for every seat, which is great if only one child is ready to take a nap.

This double stroller can also be expanded with an additional seat, or two, in case your family grows.

7. Kolcraft Cloud Plus Double Stroller

I couldn’t possibly make a list of double stroller recommendations without mentioning Kolcraft!

This stroller is easy to fold and transport, as well as one of the lightest models around, and generally pretty affordable.

This is a double stroller that weighs only 23 pounds.

Each seat has a weight limit of 40 pounds.

8. Honey Joy Umbrella Double Stroller

This umbrella double stroller by Honey Joy is a rather affordable choice that weighs only 18 pounds!

The wheels swivel 360 degrees, allowing you to stroll around the neighborhood with ease.

The one downside of this stroller is storage since it doesn’t feature a basket. Instead, there are mesh bags on the backs of the seats.

9. Graco Roomfor2 Stand and Ride Stroller

The Graco Roomfor2 Stand and Ride Stroller is a lightweight double stroller with a standing board on the back for one child and a regular stroller seat at the front for the younger child.

Toddlers can get very excited about running around during a walk but they tire easily, so it’s great to have an option where they can rest and that doesn’t require a wide side-by-side stroller.

Both the front and rear can hold up to 50 pounds and you can even connect a car seat, although this stroller will only work with Graco car seats and no adapters are available.

The upside is that the front seat can recline fully, which is great for napping.

The cushion itself is removable, so if your baby spills food or drinks, you can put it in the washing machine.

Obviously, it’s a little heavier than the umbrella strollers, but this model is still quite light at 27.2 pounds.

This sit-and-stand stroller has a lot of room in the storage basket, so it’s a great choice if you tend to pack heavy, even if just for a walk!

10. Evenflo Pivot Xpand Modular Travel System

The Evenflo stroller is another convertible model that transforms from a single stroller into a tandem stroller.

The stroller can be used both with infant and toddler seats, but if you’re using it with two children at the same time, you need to purchase an additional seat.

Since this stroller is already on the pricey side, this is definitely something to take into consideration.

But the back wheel suspension feature and the swiveling front wheels allow you to move over different kinds of terrain with ease.

The seat reclines and can be adjusted to a parent-facing or a forward-facing position.

This is one of the heavier strollers on the list at 42.6 pounds, but it makes up for it with a massive amount of storage space that you can access from both the front and back.

Overall, I would recommend this stroller even if you only have one child now but are planning to have a second.

It’s easy to add a second seat and you’ll be saving space and money since you won’t need to purchase an additional double stroller when your second baby arrives.

11. Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger

The bestselling Baby Trend double stroller is a perfect fit for parents with an active lifestyle.

The front wheel can be locked in place to make sure you don’t go off course while running, but you can always unlock it when you’re casually out and about and need more maneuverability.

Each seat can accommodate a child up to 50 pounds and there’s a 5-point harness for safety.

While there is no snack or drink tray for the little ones, there’s a spacious footrest available so your kids can get comfortable, no matter how tall they are.

12. Contours Options Elite V2 Tandem Double Toddler

This stroller by Contours comes with multiple seat modifications, so your kids can be as comfortable as possible.

The footrests are adjustable for good measure, too. It weighs 37.5 pounds and you can take it to Disney with you – but only when both seats are turned inwards.

Parents of newborns can use a car seat as well, but with an adapter, and you can continue using this stroller until your child(ren) weighs 40 pounds.

There’s plenty of storage space and if you have trouble locating your diaper bag, there are zippers on the sides to make access easier.

Questions To Ask Before Making A Purchase

babies in green double strollerImpulse buying is a real thing. I’ve been guilty of it countless times!

And with smaller purchases, it’s not that big of a deal – you can always gift that shirt you ordered and don’t even like.

But with a double stroller, I would recommend asking yourself a couple of questions first.

  • Where are you going to use it?

If you live in a big city and you’re used to being out and about all day with your kids, then investing a little extra will pay off in the long run.

But if you’re just looking for something simple that will take care of your twins while you’re on holiday in Spain, then you should go for an inexpensive and more practical option.

  • What’s the age difference between your kids?

If you have a baby and 4-year-old, getting a side-by-side model could be a little impractical, especially with the weight imbalance.

In this case, maybe a sit-and-stand stroller is a better option as it gives your oldest more freedom.

  • Will it fit in your car?

Imagine trying to take your kiddos to their grandparents’ for the weekend and you discover that the trunk of your car is too small for your brand new double stroller.

To avoid having to make a return, it’s always best to inquire about the size and make sure your car is big enough.

  • What’s your lifestyle like?

Some of the strollers I’ve recommended are specifically made for active parents who love jogging.

If you are too, and you’d like to bring your babies along, then these strollers are a perfect choice.

On the other hand, if you just need one for practical reasons, a jogging stroller might not be necessary (unless you love the look, of course!).

To Wrap Up

Even when I became a mom of two, I was adamant that it wasn’t going to stop me from spending quality time outdoors with my children.

It’s so important for their development and helps them use their energy in a healthy way.

During this time, lightweight double strollers were my saving grace since we could easily move from one place to the next.

When the kids got tired or hungry, they could take a quick nap or have a snack, and I wouldn’t need to abandon all our plans for the day.

Whether you are a parent of twins, looking for a practical model for your holiday, or just something to take your kids to kindergarten in, these strollers will come to your rescue!
